Monkspath Junior and Infant School

Organisation and Key Information

Nursery Education at Monkspath School

At Monkspath School, our Early Years provision is thoughtfully organised across two well-equipped rooms: Little Chimps and Marmosets Nursery. We provide high-quality care and education for children aged 2 to 4, with a strong emphasis on play-based learning, positive relationships, and preparing children for the next stage of their journey.

Our Early Years Rooms

Little Chimps Room – for 2 - 3 year olds

Children can join us from their 2nd birthday. Little Chimps offers a calm, nurturing and stimulating environment, led by experienced Early Years professionals. Children remain in Little Chimps until either the September or Easter after they turn three, whichever is first.

Marmosets Nursery – for 3 - 4 year olds

Children move into our teacher-led Marmosets Nursery Room in either September or around Easter, following their third birthday. This allows them to join a peer group aligned with their academic year, which supports social development and a smoother transition into school life.

Daily Provision and Attendance Options

We offer flexible sessions between 7.45am and 6pm, with a range of patterns to meet the needs of working families, including options for funded 15 or 30 hours, and additional paid hours where required.

  • Little Chimps: Year-round care for 2–3 year olds
  • Marmosets: Term-time sessions with optional holiday care for 3–4 year olds

Our preferred attendance model for children aged 3+ (who will join Reception year group in the following academic year) is daily morning or afternoon sessions with any additional requirements booked around this. This supports routines, friendships, and learning continuity. However, we are happy to discuss and agree alternative patterns to suit individual needs.

Our morning session 'core' hours are 8.45am-11.45am.

Our afternoon session 'core' hours are 12.45pm-3.45pm

Uniform

A Strong Sense of Belonging

From the academic year before Reception, children in Marmosets Nursery wear a simple school uniform. This helps build a strong sense of identity and community and prepares children for their transition to school.

Uniform includes:

  • Grey cardigan or jumper
  • White polo shirt (plain or with logo)
  • Grey jogging bottoms/leggings/trousers or pinafore
  • Sensible, flat shoes or trainers
  • Optional gingham dress in summer
  • A small pump bag with a change of clothes

Children who will not be old enough to join Reception year in the upcoming September are not required to wear a school uniform.

Special Events

Children in this age group also take part in special school events such as Christmas singing, performances, Sports Day and school visits – just like the rest of our school community.

Admissions

Joining Little Chimps (2-year-olds)

Children can join at any point in the year, depending on availability. Apply via the school’s Childcare Office.

Joining Marmosets Nursery (3-year-olds)

Many children join us for ‘Nursery’ (the academic year before they begin full time education in Reception). Applications for these places close on 31st January each year, with offers made by the end of the spring term.

All children who have joined us at an earlier age will automatically transfer into our Marmosets Room.

To apply to join us at the in September after your child’s 3rd birthday:

  • Complete the request form on our Admissions page
  • Contact the school for individual tour opportunities

Children already in Little Chimps Room will automatically move to Marmosets when appropriate – there’s no need to reapply.

Funding and Fees

We accept 15 and 30-hour funded places and offer flexible top-up sessions. Additional hours are charged according to our current fee structure, reviewed annually in May. For children using 30-hour codes, please ensure applications are made by:
